The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Each time a prominent honors show nears, you'll find a demand to include of new categories to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category in 2014
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, however the design of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles globally continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
