Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear in the new Hunger Games series instalment, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

Reports indicate that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.

A Major Comeback for the Franchise

The duo will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Speculation suggests their cameos will likely occur in a brief glimpse ahead, considering the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.

This marks the sixth film in the global Hunger Games franchise.

Delving Into the Prequel

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a newly published work by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed most of the previous films in the series.

A New Era in Panem

The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.

The film welcomes several prominent actors in pivotal roles:

  • Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
  • Ralph Fiennes will appear as a earlier incarnation of the calculating President Snow.

Current Projects and Release Timeline

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence is receiving acclaim for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the shoot:

  1. Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
  2. Filming concluded in November of the same year.
  3. The highly anticipated film is slated for November 2026 release.

Audiences worldwide can now look forward to the comeback of these iconic characters to the big screen.
