A Ton of Anime News Dropped Over the Festive Season
The Yuletide season provide a wealth of pastimes far superior than checking the updates: opening presents, feasting on festive fare, and harnessing patience techniques to not arguing with family members. Hopefully you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling announcements emerged over the festive period, and if you didn't see a few, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Perhaps the biggest revelation, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter further production. The show will return with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they could have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a positive development. However, the promotional image for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, at this point, they could be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been running for a while, and season 6 was yet another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.
